Open Access Publishing Association in collaboration with the Communication Institute of Greece responded to the timing and important question of the Education Future organising the panel entitled “Challenges regarding Quality Communication in Education”. The main question was how academics and HEIs can remain relevant, resilient and effective including students, academics and administrative voices? How do we reach our students effectively? How can we help the next generation develop?

The panel took place on Friday 12 June 2026, 13:00 – 14:00 PM EEST (UTC+3) and was free of charge and open.

The President of the Communication Institute of Greece, Dr. Margarita Kefalaki, guided the discussion.

Pr. Sophie Karanicolas, Hon. Vice President of Learning Innovations and International Relations, Communication Institute of Greece & Hon Associate Professor, Australia spoke about assessment information that even if it might be carefully designed, yet students frequently report uncertainty about what is expected of them, what quality looks like, and how to use feedback to improve. This presentation explored the communication gap between educator intentions and student understanding. The talk was entitled “From confusion to confidence: The role of communication in assessment quality”.

Pr. Jan Bamford, Hon. Vice President of International Higher Education, Communication Institute of Greece & Professor, London Metropolitan University, London, followed will a talk entitled “Benefits versus risks of transnational higher education for staff and students”. Pr. Bamford referred to the future of international higher education, in a complex and dynamic global environment, highlighting the importance of quality of the communication between all parties.

Pr. Fotini Diamantidaki, Vice President of Research and Academic Affairs, Communication Institute of Greece & Associate Professor, UCL Institute of Education, University of London, UK, referred to Meta divers societies and the importance of cultural and intercultural competences. Her talk was entitled “Developing intercultural thinking in education”

Last but not least, Pr. Michael Anibal Altamirano, Vice President of Strategic Management, Communication Institute of Greece & Professor, Monroe University, USA, explained how education has become a business. Additionally, he referred to the emergence of AI and its major impact on the students that today rely on AI for every assignment. Pr. Altamirano also referred to the problem of imposter syndrome. His concern on how do we reach our students? How can we help the next generation develop?

His research is ongoing his talk was entitled “Diminishing Equity: The Current Career Challenges for Under-represented Students in the USA”
