Conference Social Program and Educational Activities

Social activities aim to promote intercultural communication and exchange. Activities might change or adjust for unforeseen reasons (ex. weather conditions) and require a minimum number of participants. Accompanying persons can participate paying only the cost of the event. The events proposed are not included in the registration fee and pricing may be adapted and change. Aditionaly the activity will take place only when a sufficient number of participants is completed.
1st day

Greek Symposium
(19:30-21:00, approximate time)
This is an example of an ‘ancient’ Greek symposium. We experience the greek way of meeting and exchanging. The meal includes starters, main course, dessert, and a glass of wine or soft drink per person. The event takes place at a typical Greek restaurant.

Social Dinner
(19:30-21:00, approximate time)
This Dinner is an opportunity to meet and discuss after the end of the conferences academic part. It includes starters, Greek food, dessert. Please note that this dinner is a three-course set menu with a vegetarian option available (please inform us in case you are vegeterian). Please note that the dinner IS NOT a la carte and this includes drinks. For any other inquiry, including orders, please ask the Institute’s administration staff, available during the conference and the event.

3rd day

(Wednesday)

Educational tour in Athens, including the Acropolis and the Acropolis museum (3-4 hours)
Our city tour includes attractions such as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Parliament building, the Panathinaiko Stadium, or Kallimarmaro where the first Olympic Games took place. Proceed, passing by Zappeion, the National Garden, and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. We will then pass the famous Athenian Trilogy which includes the University of Athens, the Academy of Athens, and the National Library. And the highlight of our tour, the Acropolis of Athens! With the help of our professional tour guide, we will see the monuments of the Acropolis Hill such as the Propylae (the gateway), the Temple of Athena Nike, the Parthenon, and the Erechtheion with its Porch of Maidens. You will also be able to visit the Acropolis museum
Please use comfortable clothes and shoes.

A unique full day trip in the province of Argolis! We leave from Athens joining the coastal road until the first stop in the Corinth Canal, a unique technical achievement of the 19th century, connecting the Ionian with the Aegean Sea (short stop). Then we drive to Mycenae, the citadel of one of the oldest pre-historical civilizations famous all around the world for the story of the Trojan War. This is the place from where the Greeks had set off for the expedition in Troy in order to get back beautiful Helene and where the golden mask of Agamemnon was found. We will see the famous Lion’s Gate, the monumental entrance, the Cyclopean Walls and the Treasury of Atreus, a monumental structure for the burial of the King. Before we depart for Nafplio, we will have a lunch break at Mycenae. The next destination is Nafplio, Napoli di Romania, one of the most beautiful cities in Greece. We will stroll around the alleys of the first capital of Greece, we will admire the local architecture, the great Venetian castle of Palamidi and the stronghold of Bourtzi and the cathedral of Saint George.  After a short walking tour, you will have free time on your own to enjoy the city. In the afternoon, we return back to Athens full of colorful images and unique smells.
