Mokhtar Elareshi is a Senior Lecturer in Media and Communication Studies. He has taught at several large Libyan universities such as University of Tripoli, when he was also a former Head of the Department of Media at Azzaytuna University 2003–2006. Elareshi earned his PhD in Media Studies at the Department of Media and Communication, University of Leicester, in 2013, an MA and BA in PR from University of Benghazi (2001, 1995 respectively). He is the author of News Consumption in Libya (Cambridge Scholar, 2013), the co-author of The Future of News Media in the Arab World (LAMBERT, 2013) and the co-editor of Social Media in the Arab World (I.B Tauris, 2016). He has written and reviewed several journal articles in the Arabic and English. His research interests include news consumption, young adults’ media habits, new media, mobile phone use, International Communication, and satellite TV.
