Dr Mingsheng Li is a senior lecturer of communication at Massey University, New Zealand. He received a PhD in education from La Trobe University, Australia. Prior to his arrival in Australia in 1995, he was a deputy dean and an associate professor in teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) at Yunnan Normal University (YNU), China. He had taught English language and literature at YNU for 15 years. His research interests include issues of cross-cultural adaptation of Asian international students studying in New Zealand, and settlement issues of Chinese elderly immigrants in the country. He is also interested in cultural issues facing Chinese media going global. Recent publications concern academic integrity in across-cultural settings, re-entry cultural integration issues faced by foreign-educated returned Chinese students in the Chinese labour market, and acculturative challenges facing non-English-speaking doctoral students in New Zealand universities. His (co)authored books have attracted the interests of readers in cross-cultural communication: Intercultural communication: Building a global community (2011) and Teaching English in cross-cultural settings: Challenges faced by English language teachers teaching English in China (2009). He currently teaches Advance Business Communication at the postgraduate level and Cross-Cultural Communication at the undergraduate level. As a champion in international education, he has been very actively involved in establishing and supporting a number of collaborative programmes with Chinese universities.
