Elpida Sklika is a PhD Student at the University of Strasbourg in France in the Department of Greek Studies, with specialization in Linguistics (affiliated to the Group of Oriental, Slavic and Modern Greek Studies). She holds a master’s degree (MA) in General Linguistics and a bachelor’s (BA) in Greek Language and Literature from the University of Athens, Greece. She also has a Teaching Certificate of Modern Greek as a foreign language abroad from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (11-month Seminar).
The title of her thesis is “The influence of global English on Modern Greek through the Online Press”. Her areas of interest include English as a global language, linguistics, media discourse, online press and mass communication and she has have participated in several conferences or student meetings with oral communications or posters that have also been published.
She is currently teaching professional English at an undergraduate level at the Technological Institute of the University of Upper Alsace. She has previous experience in electronic lexicography (6-month internship at the Centre for Modern Greek Dialects at the Academy of Athens) and little experience in concept advertisement (copywriter in Greek Internet Marketing company in Athens).
