Alyssa Jackson is a student at the Rochester Institute of Technology pursuing a double major in journalism and international and global studies. She will graduate in May of 2016 with honors and plans to go into the field as a reporter. During her time at RIT she has been an active member on campus as a peer mentor in the College of Liberal Arts, a staff assistant in the Liberal Arts advising office, a member of Lambda Pi Eta and Alpha Sigma Alpha Gamma Iota, and as a member of Reporter Magazine, RIT’s student run magazine. She started as a writer for Reporter and has since served as a news editor, technology editor and Editor in Chief.
She has worked with the Finger Lakes Times, the Daily Messenger and CNN’s Social Discovery and iReport team as a student studying journalism. She also holds freelance positions with Rochester Women’s Magazine, Messenger Post Media and Open Mic Rochester and is a contributing writer to USA Today College. She has completed research on college media as well as human interest stories and the Syrian refugee conflict.
