Alexandros Baltzis (PhD) is an Assistant Professor of Sociology of the Arts and Mass Communication (School of Journalism & Mass Media Studies, Faculty of Economic & Political Sciences, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki) and a tutor at the Hellenic Open University (postgraduate programme Cultural Organizations Management). He has also been a visiting professor at the Dept. of Culture & Communication (Université Paris VIII) and he has taught at the University of Sofia and the Democritus University of Thrace. Alexandros is author of 50 publications in the fields of the sociology of culture and the arts, the sociology of music and the sociology of education. He has presented papers at 32 international and local conferences and participated in 21 international and local research projects. He is a member of the European Sociological Association (ESA), the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA), and the International Musicological Society (IMS). His research interests include the production and consumption of culture and the impact of globalization on the cultural industries (http://users.auth.gr/baltzis/en/).
